Modern Quilt Group

There are many guild members who have a strong interest in modern quilting and meet once every three months – January / April / July / October to share ideas, works-in-progress and meet challenges established by the group.

At each meeting  attendees show what they have been working on to meet the current challenge.  One person usually has a hack or tutorial they share with others and then a challenge is discussed and chosen, along with any guidelines by which to proceed, for the next meeting.

Some of the challenges in the past couple years have been: Lunar, New Take on the Churn Dash, or using two characters from the game Clue as color inspiration.  Two recent challenges were Dresden Plate – A Modern Look; and using the Pantone colors of the year – pale yellow and grey – PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.  January 2022 gave us the Wonky Log Cabin;  and for April we did Roll the Dice – which resulted in the group using pink, green, white and a curve in a pieced quilt design.

For 2022 July meeting the Challenge is ORANGE.  The piece can be no larger than 24″ by 24″ – or 96″ in circumference. You need to use three shades of orange and any other color(s) you choose. The Zoom app has been a blessing but we are finally meeting in person again and last year several meetings were held outside, which was lovely.
